Charles is my uncle. I was finding it difficult to learn to drive as I have trouble concentrating and several people found it hard to teach me and my confidence was not very high after some near misses.
Charles soon worked out the issues. He worked at the pace that suited me, rather than trying to rush me.
We started in quiet areas with skills I could handle and gradually built up the skills as my confidence grew. We drove initially in areas like Maroubra, Rosebery and Mascot and eventually we were driving on King Georges Road, Princess Highway, M2, M5, Harbour Tunnel and Harbour Bridge.
Charles would always tell me if I was making mistakes, but in a way that I could learn from and not feel threatened. He would also tell me if I was doing something well so I felt I was learning in a positive environment. Charles’ emphasis was on driving safely, rather than just passing the test, and he would constantly be telling me about vision checks, safe distance and signalling.
I went for my driving test and to my amazement I passed first time. I was so happy, because after my initial learning experience before Charles, I felt there was no way in the world that I would pass, let alone first time.
I went from being a very nervous and dangerous driver with no confidence, to being a competent and confident driver who still practices the safety principles. Uncle Charles told me that driving with me inspired him to become a qualified driving instructor where he worked for about 3 years with a very big driving school, before he eventually set up his own business.
I am happy to recommend Charles as a driving instructor. He focuses on safety, adjusts his style and pace to what works best with the student and made me feel relaxed and comfortable.
